Description:
First, you will discover the St. Gabriel Cathedral, formerly the largest church of the Indian Ocean. While going the way downhill, you will be impressed by the beautiful scenery of the islets Hermitage, Chats, Gombrani, etc. You will also be able to enjoy the exceptional turquoise blue water of the lagoon.
Then, you will reach the coast at Port Sud Est, a village that has a rich naval history. Nowadays, it is famous for its "ourites" (octopus). You will end the tour discovering Caves Patate, which is, with its 1040m-long gallery, the longest cave of both Mauritius and Rodrigues. You will also be able to visit the famous François Leguat tortoise natural reserve.
The François Leguat Park, a newly opened site. In this fantastic corner the promoter have aimed to creating an atmosphere that prevailed some 300 years ago since the endemic tree were planted. Four hundreds tortoises were brought to create this place a fantastic reserve and you will have also possibility to visit the unique electrified cave and you could visit also a little museum.
This 20-hectare nature reserve, which until recently was almost entirely over-run with introduced plants, is an ongoing conservation project, working on re-wilding the lowland savanah of this area; planting shrubs and trees that once grew here and reintroducing key animal species to recreate the lost links between flora and fauna that make up this unique ecosystem.
