The British called Shimla the “Queen of Hill Stations.” Situated in the northwest Himalayas, Shimla — the summer capital of India before independence — is now the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Shimla derives its name from “Shyamala,” the goddess Kali, whose temple once existed in the dense forests covering Jakhu Hill in the early 19th century. The English named it Shimla. Covering an area of 18 sq. km at a height of 7,238 ft, Shimla is surrounded by pine, deodar, oak, and rhododendron forests. Its well-developed facilities, easy accessibility, and numerous attractions make it one of India’s most popular and largest hill stations.

    Overnight in Shimla.

After breakfast, proceed for a city tour of Shimla, visiting the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Jakhu Temple, The Ridge, Scandal Point, Christ Church, and The Mall.

  • Day 7 - 04 Jan 26 (Breakfast): Shimla - Delhi

After an early breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive to Delhi.

DELHI: Perhaps there is no other capital city in the world so steeped in history and legend as the Indian capital, Delhi. It was the magnet that drew the Mongols, Turks, Persians, Afghans, Mughals, and the British, all of whom contributed to its glorious but turbulent past. The fascination with Delhi was such that, even though it was abandoned many times, its rulers returned to it repeatedly, rebuilding it at least seven times. Today, the twin cities of Old and New Delhi continue to intrigue Indians and tourists alike as the cultural and political capital of the world’s largest democracy.

    Overnight in Delhi.

  • Day 8 - 05 Jan 26 (Breakfast): Delhi

After breakfast, proceed for a city tour of Old and New Delhi.

Old Delhi, once known as the city of Shahjahanabad, has a long and interesting history. Even today, the remains of its glorious past can be seen in the form of Kashmiri Gate, Ajmeri Gate, Turkman Gate, Delhi Gate, and Feroz Shah Kotla. In Old Delhi, drive past the Red Fort — a marvel in red sandstone — and visit Raj Ghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, and Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India. Later, proceed to Chandni Chowk to experience the ambience of a crowded, oriental bazaar. Take a cycle rickshaw ride to explore the massive area packed with shops, bazaars, and people. As Asia’s largest wholesale market, Chandni Chowk offers an array of goods at various shops and stalls.

Later, proceed for a city tour of New Delhi. Visit India Gate (memorial to Indian army soldiers) for a photo stop. Drive past Rashtrapati Bhavan (formerly the Viceroy’s residence) and Sansad Bhawan (Parliament House). Visit the impressive Lakshmi Narayan Temple and the mausoleum of Mughal Emperor Humayun — a forerunner of Mughal architecture. End the sightseeing with a visit to the 12th-century Qutab Minar — gracefully hand-carved for its entire height of 234 ft — and the Ashoka iron pillar, which has resisted rust for over 1,500 years.

    Overnight in Delhi.

  • Day 9 - 06 Jan 26 (Breakfast): Delhi

Karol Bagh is one of Delhi’s oldest and most vibrant shopping districts, known for its bustling markets, colorful streets, and a wide range of clothing, jewelry, and electronics. It’s a lively place where traditional shops and modern boutiques sit side by side, offering a true taste of Delhi’s energy and charm.

    Overnight in Delhi.

  • Day 10 - 07 Jan 26 (Breakfast): Delhi

After breakfast, the full day is free for leisure.

    Overnight in Delhi.
