The former Portuguese enclave of Goa, one of India’s gems, has been popular with tourists for many years with its magnificent palm-fringed beaches and renowned “travellers’ scene”. It has much more to offer than sun, sand and sea. Goa has a character quite distinct from the rest of India, and the people are fun-loving and relaxed, having retained some of the gaiety of the Portuguese.
This morning proceed for a full-day City Tour of Temples, Churches, Plantation and shopping In Panjim.
The most visible legacy of the Portuguese is their churches, which remain as silent but forceful witnesses to the intense religious history of the land. Situated to the north of Ponda near the village of Priol, is the Shri Mangueshi Temple located on a hillock surrounded by lush green hills. Though small it has an air of distinctive elegance. Its lofty white tower at the entrance is a landmark of the countryside. This is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Standing with its back to a wall of thick forest is the Shri Shantadurga Temple, another famous temple in Goa. The interior of the building, dripping with marble and glass chandeliers is dominated by an exquisitely worked silver screen.
Treat yourself to a typical Goan buffet lunch on a banana leaf at the oldest Spice Plantation in Goa. A guide will take you around the 130-acre spice farm, where cardamom, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg, herbs, fruits, areca nut, betel and medicinal plants grow. Proceed to Old Goa for a visit to the Basilica of Bom Jesus, which is the most famous and popular church in Goa. The mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier kept in a silver casket, are enshrined here. Next, visit the Se Cathedral the most imposing of all churches at Old Goa. Its vaulted interior overwhelms the visitors with sheer grandeur. This Cathedral has 05 bells one of which is the famous Golden Bell. Drive into Goa’s capital – Panjim to spend some time shopping.

This morning proceed for tour of Heritage Goa.
With a history that speaks of several rulers, they are wonders as you wander around on the Heritage Tour. Though limited in number, these majestic structures are full of history. Drive to the Menezes Braganza which is located at the Chandor village in Goa. It is known to be more than 350 years old and is situated near the church square in Chandor. This mansion is the most exquisite heritage house in the countryside, the biggest in Goa and also has a Portuguese style facade. It is a museum of chandeliers, painting, porcelain, crystal, period furniture and other antique items. Proceed for hi – tea to the 17th century “Palacio Do Deão” which is a 213 year old Palace in Quepem built by a Portuguese noble man who was the Dean of the Church and founder if Quepem Town. It has an unusual style of architecture, blending Hindu & Portuguese cultures. The lush gardens around the Palace have preserved their features and have been known as the most beautiful pleasure gardens. Drive to Goa Chitra for lunch a museum based in the former Portuguese colony (and now India’s smallest state) of Goa. It has a large collection — over 4000 artefacts — focusing on Goa’s traditional agrarian technology and lifestyle.
