After Breakfast, visit The Citadel of Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi (Saladin), one of the most iconic monuments in Islamic Cairo, and among the most impressive defensive fortresses dating to the Middle Ages. Visit Ibn Tulun Mosque which was commissioned by Ahmad Ibn Tulun (254–270 AH/868–884 AD), ‘Abbasid governor of Egypt. Visit Imam Shafi’i shrine & Mosque. Transfer to hotel and overnight.
After breakfast, visit the mosque of ‘Amr ibn al-‘As (Sahaba conqueror of Egypt) which is the oldest surviving mosque in Egypt and Africa. He founded its first Islamic capital, Fustat, which falls within the modern city of Cairo. A year later, by order of the Caliph ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, he also founded the eponymous mosque of ‘Amr ibn al-‘As, which thus became the new capital’s very first building.
Visit Al-Azhar Mosque in the historic Islamic core of the city. Commissioned as the new capital of the Fatimid Caliphate in 970, it was the first mosque established in a city that eventually earned the nickname “the City of a Thousand Minarets”. Visit Al Hussein Mosque, dedicated to the grandson of the prophet Muhammad pbuh.
Visit Sayeda Nafisa and Sayeda Zeinab Mosque. Transfer to hotel and overnight.
After breakfast, we start exploring ancient Egypt with a visit to the famous Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. The Great Pyramid of Cheops is the largest of the three main Pyramids and is the only survivor of the Seven Great Wonders of the Ancient World, the Pyramid of Chephren, which is the best-preserved, and the Pyramid of Mycerinus. The Sphinx, a marvellous sight carved out of a natural rocky outcrop, the lion’s body stretching 45m, with its paws 15m long. Transfer to hotel.
Dinner Cruise on the Nile
Following the tour of Cairo, board a dinner cruise. Sail along the Nile River for two hours, enjoying an Egyptian-style dinner and live entertainment. Watch the sun go down over the water on your last night in Egypt. It is the same river where baby Moussa (a.s) was thrown in a basket to escape the tyrant Pharaoh.
